September 5, 2006 – For those too young to recognize the term ‘Word is bond’, it’s synonymous with ‘On the strength’, ‘For real, for real’, and ‘Straight up’, in they all denote a truthful or meaningful statement. And they all apply in conjunction to the suggestion Aaron Bond is being hearvily recruited to play Division I hoops.

Bond, a 6’4”+, 180lb senior guard who attends Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, MD), and averaged 13 points, six assists, six boards, and three steals, while shooting 75% from the free throw line and 48% from the field as a junior, recently shared he has been presented scholarship offers from “Davidson, Holy Cross, Princeton, Bucknell, U. of Penn”, along with “Richmond”. Bond then added “Santa Clara” is expected to offer soon, and “Clemson, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech” have previously shown interest.

According to Aaron, the institution chosen “will be the best for me, both academically and basketball wise”, with the school’s “social life” also appealing to him. When pressed to name front runners for his services, Bond replied “I would say probably Davidson, Holy Cross, and Princeton”. The finalist will be chosen hopefully “in September”, and at this time, Aaron thinks he will major in “probably creative writing”.

Bond has made and hopes to meet both team and personal goals at Prep this year. “Definitely win the league (the Interstate Athletic Conference) and be in the running for at least top five in the D.C. area” is how he elucidated his team oriented objectives. In terms of Prep realizing these and other group aspirations, Bond stated “I think if we put our differences aside for the team, we have a chance of doing a lot of good things”.

Aaron Bond was central in Georgetown Prep's success last year. He brings athletic ability and guard/forward skills to the table.

From an individual perspective, Aaron designs to be named “All IAC again” along with considered “being a leader on my team, and living up to my potential”. That last desire includes not only utilizing his strengths, which he outlined as “I’d say (the ability to do) a little bit of everything – run the court, penetrate, dish, and finish” but also strengthen the weaker parts of his game. In Aaron’s opinion such improvement entails becoming a “more consistent outside spot up shooter (he likes to let the ball fly in motion)”, and just improving generally, as he stated “I can always get better”.

Two years ago, the Bond family determined Georgetown Prep was just the place to aid Aaron in growing and maximizing all of his abilities. “I made a transition to Prep because I thought there would be more opportunities – basketball and academic” he recounted.

And a transition it was for Aaron. Though he doesn’t live on campus like many Prep students do - given a desire to continue living with his “close knit family” that includes parents Tony and Tammie along with Amber, his sister - a number of challenges still existed. “There were no girls” said Bond, before laughing.
