April 30, 2008 – Want to show the world your skills? Think you belong in invitation only, national level basketball camps? The Adidas Phenom Showcase provides that option for young men from the 5th to the 10th grades. Best of all, its free!

At the Trinidad Recreation Center (1310 Childress Street, NE, Washington, DC) this Saturday between two and four PM, PRE-REGISTERED (that’s right, no drop ins) young guys in the aforementioned age groups will have an opportunity to impress Adidas officials and earn an invitation to one of three high profile camps: Phenom Elite (Classes of 2009, 2010, and unsigned seniors), Phenom 150 (Classes of 2011, 2012), and Junior Phenom (Grades 5-7) confabs.

“D.C. is a qualifier” said Joe Keller, Phenom Camp president of Saturday’s Adidas Phenom Showcase, of the event largely planned and executed by Frank Simpson. “We started doing this in the beginning to give opportunities for kids to get their education paid for” continued Keller, of the Phenom Camp’s motivation.

Simpson, an alumnus of Cardozo High School (WDC) and Marshall University who now Director of Athletics at Takoma Park MD’s Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School, echoed that sentiment and added “I’m not in this to make money, I’m here to help kids”; hence no cost for the Showcase.

Though it’s free, again, pre-registration IS A MUST. Consequently, Simpson must be contacted at either 202.361.3989 or SimpsonF@DBCR.org by Friday to secure an RSVP, which is MANDATORY for entrance.

If you have what it takes, or just want to see if you do…See you there.
