The Bearcats of Cincinnati lead for 6'6" guard, Afam Muojeke.

July 27, 2006 – Late-blooming student athletes are good-as-gold to college recruiters; these student athletes can make big impacts in college programs, yet in many cases don’t receive the attention from other schools that’s warranted - less attention means less competition from other schools. Afam Muojeke is that type of ball player.

Standing 6’6”, and weighing 190lbs, this rising senior from Queens, New York, claimed during a phone interview to have earned not only a “3.0 GPA” from Genesis One Prep in Mendenhall, MS last season, but notched per game averages of “21 points, six rebounds, and 6 assists” as well. According to him, the Genesis One experience was a positive one, and included “adjusting a lot” to the school’s rural, “quiet” surroundings.

With the ability to play both backcourt positions in addition to swingman and possessing a seven foot wingspan, there is no suprise Muokeke’s favorite player is Tracy McGrady, a professional the young man indicated “I pattern myself after”. According to his AAU coach, J.R. Rembert, while approaching McGrady is a tall order for anyone, Afam has tremendous ability, and may just do it.

“This is the most talented kid I’ve ever seen in my life” said Rembert, leader of the New York Sky Riders AAU/travel team program. “If he realizes how good he can be, he’s a pro”.

Rembert went on to say during the same phone interview “Afam’s a true shooting guard” who “can really shoot and his not just a spot shooter”. The Sky Rider’s coach also shared Muojeke is also “a great fast break shot blocker – a great weak side shot blocker”, in part due to the young man’s prodigious growth spurt in which “Afam was 6’0” in 2004”, and subsequently grew “six inches in eight months”.

Though Rembert believes Muojeke is “just starting to grow into his body”, adjusting to his relatively new size is not where he believes Afam needs to improve most. “Sometimes he plays lackadaisical” shared Rembert, seemingly coaching his prodigy away from the court. “If he ever puts the fire with it, he’s a pro”.

Afam understands this, and is pledging to work on consistently applying effort on the court. From a skills standpoint, he works on “his defense and rebounding” (both of which are tied to effort) in addition to ball handling on an everyday basis.

In regards to college offers, the young man shared scholarship offers have been received from “Army, Cincinnati, and St. Peters”, while “Rhode Island, LSU, Ole Miss, Stanford, Penn State, FAU, and SMU” have all expressed strong interest”. At the time of this writing, Cincinnati could be considered his leader, and a firm commitment will be made in the fall.

As a result of playing in the Adidas 64 tournament in Las Vegas with the Sky Riders, more interest from schools are sure to be received by Muojeke. Check back with i95Ballerz.com for updates on this up and coming shooting guard. As his coach Rembert, said, “This kid can be a pro”.
