Young players did their thing.
May 23, 2011 - The recent Big Shots - DC Assault II boy's hoops tournament boasted a nice number of talented younger kids. Below are brief evaluations of a selected number of standouts.
Randy Haynes - 6'2", 165 lb freshman point guard, VA Assault, Potomac (VA) - The future is bright for Hanyes now has advanced ball patting skill and always seems to play within his own pace; a great trait for a point guard that should work on foot quickness. Haynes must also get stronger and simplify his game - he likes to show his skill level - but nevertheless dominated.
Randy Haynes has the look of a future star. Cameron Williams - 6'2", 150 lb sophomore guard, B'More Elite, Mt. St. Joes (MD) - Though he definitely needs to get stronger, Williams is still able to slash to the cup, where he finishes using guile and skill. Can also hit mid to three point shots. George Mason, Loyola and others have recruited him, while an unofficial visit to Miami is upcoming this fall. Dexter Miles - 6'2", 155 lb sophomore guard, B'More Elite, Dunbar (MD) - Miles has vision, long arms, and loves to take opponents off the dribble. Needs to further develop his jumpshot and get stronger. Also plays with a visible swag. Rashad Kelly - 6'6", 205 lb sophomore forward, DC Assault, O'Connell (VA) - Kelly plays with athleticism and aggression, constantly raising for rebounds or defending. Needs to work on back to the basket footwork.
Dexter Miles could possibly be a Division I standout. Chuck Glover - 5'11", 170 lb sophomore guard, DC Assault, Gonzaga (MD) - More of a two guard presently, Glover loves to hit the deep corner jumper, as well as get up and down the floor. Increased ball handling work will allow him to transition into more of a college level combo. Delaware and FAU have expressed interest. Sean Taylor - 5'10", 160 lb sophomore guard, Juice All Stars, Xaverian (NY) - BC and Hofstra have shown Taylor love, as he applies good on ball pressure, gets up and down the floor and leads his team. He understands jumpshooting is the next to-do for him, saying "I'm in the gym everyday, getting up 500 shots". Ja'de Dade - 6'3", 175 lb sophomore swingman, Team Interhigh, Princeton Day (MD) - Athletic and fearless, Dade is a tough swingman that loves to mix it up. His basketball I.Q. and handles need improvement.
Ja'de Dade does much of his work around the hoop. Romello Trimble - 6'2", 165 lb freshman swingman, DC Assault, O'Connell (VA) - Again Trimble proved the assertion he's tracking to be big time correct, as he slashed his way to all star status. Could use work on his open floor ball handling, and needs to get stronger - positively impacting his shooting and defense in the process. Paulim Miano - 6'4", 220 lb sophomore forward, Team Interhigh, Bell
(DC) - Having good low post footwork and solid balance, Miano should develop
more lift on his shot/leaping and become stronger, as his game will be
based on the floor.
