October 5, 2006 - i95ballerz.com has learned that Sparkman guard/forward G.W. Boon has given a verbal commitment to Bucknell University. “I felt very comfortable with the university mainly because of their superior academics”, stated the 6’4 210-pounder, who chose the Bison over the likes of Rice, Tennessee Tech, Furman and Belmont. In addition to being a quality basketball player, G.W. is an excellent student, boasting a 4.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Boon has an interest in studying Bio-Medical Engineering upon entering the Lewisburg, PA institution. “The academics played a major part in my decision and they’re ranked the 8th best undergraduate engineering program in the nation.”
G.W. Boon epitomizes the student athlete. What's puzzling is why big time hoops schools didn't flock to obtain his services? (Photo property of I. Boon was one the top offensive weapons for the Senators run to the Alabama State Regional playoffs. He displayed an effective jump shot with 3-pt. range, a solid handle and the ability to rebound and defend equally as well. The St. Louis, Missouri native has played mostly in the post for the Senators, but he has the repertoire to also play out on the perimeter. Defensively, Boon can guard any position on the floor.

Assault, nationally renowned for their summer basketball program, features top prospects Michael Beasley, Austin Freeman, Nolan Smith and others. “I went up against those guys at the Super 64 and even though we lost, I led my team in scoring (21 points) and shut down Beasley”, said Garfield Wilbur Boon, III. Boon’s success at Sparkman and on the summer circuit will fit in
well at Bucknell, which is in the Patriot League, is a perennial NCAA
tourney participant and finished last season ranked 25th in the country.
