Many talented 'Cap' players remain unsigned.
April 27, 2011 – This month’s Capital Classic provided on opportunity to track the recruiting of talented players, both local and nationally. Following are some updates: Malcolm Clarke – 6’3”, 180 pound swingman, Chavez (DC) – JMU is on him hard, and his LOI signing is simply contingent on achieving the necessary test scores. If they are not secured, JUCO’s Chipola, Hutchinson and Vincennes are options, as are D2’s Goldey-Beacon, Southern Connecticut State and East Stroudsburg. Clarke does some of everything, impact that produces wins.
Malcolm Clarke taking it to the rack. Brandon Hubert – 6’10”, 210 pound forward, New Egypt (NJ) – Hubert indicated he was headed to UNC. It’s unsure whether recent roster retention at the school may put a damper on those plans; with Harrison Barnes not turning pro and two freshman recruits joining the team this year, there may not be a spot for Hubert – he hasn’t committed to the school as of yet. Stay tuned, as this shot blocking, fleet of foot big man will surely have other opportunities if UNC proves unworkable. DeAndre Kelley – 6’8”, 180 pound swingman, Rockville (MD) – Prep school or JUCO could be an option for Kelley, who has been good enough to get love from Morgan State, VCU and George Mason. Is a long player with swingman skills. Tyrell Sitton - 6’2”, 185 pound guard, TC Williams (VA) – Sitton has turned down D2 and D3 offers (Virginia Wesleyan for instance), choosing instead to walk on at St. Bonaventure. Sitton is a scorer, capable of shooting and driving as a combo guard.
Tyrell Sitton makes things happen offensively. Devin Gallman – 6’6”, 190 pound swingman, Theodore Roosevelt (DC) – Mentioned his SAT score must be improved, and Kansas state, Nebraska, St. John's, and various mid-majors are recruiting him. Prep school and JUCO are options, depending on how far he is away from the necessary step score. Gallman is a rugged player that shoots, drives and defends.
Dontray Smith could exell in JUCO. Dontray Smith - 6'4", 175 pound swingman, Eastern (DC) - Frederick C.C. is the future home of Smith, a natural scorer that gets to the hole and can pull up. Karl Ziegler – 6’5”, 200 pound swingman, Annandale (VA) – Siena and other schools are on Ziegler. A decision is immenient. Ziegler is a solid shooter out to three point land, and will mix it up inside. Kelvin Amayo – 6’5”, 210 pound guard, Nia Prep (NJ)
– Rutgers, Seton Hall, Oregon State and Rutgers have all offered
Amayo, a rugged perimeter player. He will decide soon.
