October 30, 2008 – Playing at Gonzaga College High School (DC) and on the travel circuit (DC Assault) with Duke backcourt commit Tyler Thornton, some may have previously overlooked junior guard Cedrick ‘Ced’ Lindsay. Most aren’t now. “He’s going on an unofficial visit to LSU this weekend. And went to Penn State the first weekend of practice” shared Gonzaga’s coach, Steve Turner, this week of schools that have jumped into Lindsay’s recruitment recently, along with Marquette and Providence. “Niagara, William and Mary, Towson, Loyola, James Madison and Mount St. Mary’s have all (previosly) offered”. “The high majors started becoming interested. He came on at the end of the year, and it carried on with DC Assault” continued the coach. “His point guard instincts have improved, along with his skill (level). He’s worked hard”.
Ced Lindsay (white) will be key if Gonzaga successfully defends its Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title. (Picture provided by Turner) Always excellent getting to the cup, Lindsay, who dropped around seven points, and three assists a game coming off the bench last year for Gonzaga, now routinely finds teammates as well as demonstrates a broadened skill set. “Over the summer we talked” recalled Turner. “We told him ‘Ced, you are such a great shooter, but you settle (by forcing the ball to the middle for pulling up for long distance shots). He’s now added floaters and mid-range shots”. Lindsay, a relaxed young guy acknowledged his hard work, including several hundred shots a day and sessions in the Bowie City gym with trainer Bob Cofield. “I’ve been working with coaches” noted Ced, who hails from Clinton, MD. “They’ve been trying to turn me into a (true) combo guard, getting teammates involved”, in addition to broadening his offensive repertoire. He’s referring to coaches at Gonzaga and Cofield of course, but also those with DC Assault, an organization Linday greatly values: “That’s been a big part of my recruiting process. Coach Zach (Suber) and Coach Curtis (Malone) get a lot of coaches to come see you. Plus playing with Tyler, Josh (Hairston), Maxie and Eric helped me get looks too”. That foursome was/is high recruited, with Hairston and Thornton both headed to Duke, while Maxie Eshoo committed to UMass and Eric Atkins has a number of Big East and ACC schools pursuing him. What will draw Lindsay, who is greatly anticipating starting at Gonzaga this season to a particular school? According to him, after the season he will pick the institution striking him as “A winning program and good academics put together”. Additionally, Ced desires to be “treated like family” by a talented coaching staff. Be sure to check out i95Ballerz.com for not only recruiting updates on Lindsay, but reports chronicling his development also. Though he must continue to develop into a complete combo guard as well as display consistent defensive intensity, Ced is rounding into one heck of a player. They are starting to line up for him. sometimes I go to parties and Go-Gos”
