More schools jump in on Alabama guard
April 26, 2007 - Lee High School (AL) super junior Chase Robinson is on a mission this spring and if his play at this past weekend’s Kingwood Classic in Texas was any indication of things to come over the summer, Robinson could very well find himself among the nation’s elite guards in the class of ’08. Chase had an excellent tournament against some of the top players in the country, as his Nashville Celtics squad was placed in the super pool right off the jump, falling after three games. Robinson dropped 29 on the Arizona Stars in his first game, dipped a bit in the Celtics next contest with only 12 in a battle versus Houston Hoops, but come back strong with a dynamic 26 points against Louisiana Select and 6’9 Greg Monroe, the nation’s top prospect in 2008. Monroe had 30 versus the Celtics in a three point victory. “I think I played well and it was really challenging in the pool we were in. I got a chance to match up with some of the best players in the country”, said Robinson, who definitely did his thing during the tournament, draining threes and getting to the cup with his strength, quicks and athleticism. Chase has been hearing from Old Dominion, Penn State and George Mason, as well as SEC schools Auburn and South Carolina. Georgia Tech and Memphis have also inquired about the 6’2” combo guard. “I picked up interest from Tennessee State, Missouri and Minnesota while I was in Houston”, gleamed Robinson. “I haven’t formulated a new top five as of yet, but I’ll be doing that soon.” Missouri Coach Mike Anderson and new Minnesota head Gopher, Tubby Smith - both formerly head coaches at southern universities (UAB and Kentucky respectively) - no doubt have been monitoring Chase throughout his career, and their level of interest has certainly not waned since relocating to their present Midwest locales. Tennessee State is a healthy option for Chase because of both its basketball tradition (Dick Barnett, John McClendon) and the close proximity of the school’s Nashville campus to his Huntsville home. We’ll continue to monitor Chase’s progression on the summer
circuit and heading into the fall, updating our readers accordingly.
