March 28, 2007 - Lee High (Huntsville, AL) combo guard Chase Robinson has been on the radar of many teams in the Deep South for quite some time now, but high-majors from the northeast are starting to check in on the 6’2 junior. “Chase has been hearing from Old Dominion, Penn State and George Mason lately”, said Lee head coach Greg Brown. Traditional southern programs have been on Robinson for a while and he currently has a list of Ole Miss, Auburn, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Memphis, to go along with the abovementioned schools. “It’s a program on the rise and I like them, so they are definitely on my list”, said Robinson, when asked about his level of interest in George Mason.
Chase Robinson is a widely recruited high school junior, who could end up in Northern Virginia. Stay tuned. (McDowell) Undoubtedly the Patriots’ dynamic season a year ago, in which they made a run to the Final Four, is a major reason why Robinson has placed the Colonial Athletic League power amongst the universities he’s interested in attending. Chase can be best described as a power guard with a good first step and a reliable jumper. He uses his strength to get in the lane and finish at the rim. His jumper albeit streaky, has to be respected as well. Playing more under control than last season, Chase allowed the game to come to him this past season. In his sophomore campaign, Robinson would try and do everything himself and force a lot from his guard position, which was detrimental to his team at times. Refocused as a junior, Chase trusted his teammates more and began picking his spots to score. Chase has elevated the totality of his play without sacrificing the toughness or highly developed skill set that has transformed him from one of the more promising guards in the city into one of the best junior guards the state. Frankly put, Chase and his game have matured. “I worked on a little of everything over the summer. My mid-range game, footwork, weight lifting and taking the ball to the basket more”, commented Robinson. “I did a lot of fundamental work as well; trying not to get too fancy and just stay humble and focused.” Robinson scores in bunches and can take over a game when necessary, while still displaying an above average point guard acumen. He reminds me of Raleigh-Egypt (Memphis, TN) point guard Maurice Miller, who signed with Georgia Tech in November. Chase helped lead his Generals squad to the Alabama 5A Regional Playoffs where they lost to Erwin High. Stay tuned to i95Ballerz.com, for updates on Robinson’s recruitment.
