Saturday DC defends DMV.
September 12, 2011 – This weekend another game chock full of National Basketball Association players will hit the District-Maryland-Virginia area. It’s not surprising, as the world’s best ballers are out of work, having been locked out of their jobs by NBA franchise management. This event, dubbed, Clash of Superstars, is slightly different. “Make sure you say this game will be League guys only”, yesterday emphatically stressed Hanif Hill, a local basketball trainer and coach who is the Clash’s promoter. Unlike previous events, all of the Clash’s players will be current NBA performers.
Set for Coolidge H.S. (Tuckerman St, NW, WDC), Saturday, September 17th at 3p, expect the following players to lace them up: Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, and Jarrett Jack – all local guys, along with Richmond’s Eric Maynor, Washington Wizard John Wall (Clash coincides with his birthday weekend and as such may or may not play), DeMarcus Cousins (DMV ties) and Greg Monroe (ex-G’town player). Others such as Kemba Walker, Corey Brewer, Samardo Samuels, and James Harden, a likely participant, are also slated to suit up. Additionally, two basketball notables, one seemingly retired from the NBA, the other in the midst of a young, vibrant career, may show up. Tickets are $20 (youth), $30, $50, and $100 VIP. All must be purchased at the door, which opens at 2p. Surpassing the Clash’s hoops is its mission. “The proceeds will go to five non-profit charities” indicated Hill. They include the Calomaris YMCA, Capital Sports Academy, and others, centered around helping at risk kids. “I’ve already given out 250 tickets to kids in need” added Hill. “It’s important that we do this for kids who love and support these players. They need the help and that’s what we are going to do”. Be there and help the process, while enjoying the talents of some of
earth’s best hoopers. Up close and personal.
