September 15, 2006 – Most in the AAU/travel team world know of DC Assault’s prodigious success on the hardwood and in helping its players garner college scholarships: Over its 13 years of existence, over 60 young men have gone to play at least mid-level college hoops, while still others have attended smaller institutions. What many don’t know is that despite Adidas sponsorship, the cost of travel plus tourney registration for teams ranging from between the 17 and 10 year old age groups, sending young men nationally to basketball camps and in the D.C. area to SAT prep classes, is astronomical. Enter D.C. Assault’s First Annual Golf Tournament, as a way to defray those prodigious costs, as well as allow the organization to assist more young men. Assault’s director, Curtis Malone, elaborated further. “We are trying to do something yearly” he said recently. “We have access to so many people; we just want to get an event going where we can raise money. Not just for DC Assault, but other organizations in the community also. We have to take advantage of our resources, as a community”. The tournament, to be held at Upper Marlboro, MD’s Marlborough County Club October 16th, 2006, will not only allow participants to compete on the greens, but also win prizes, receive awards, network, and dine on cuisine provided by Outback Steakhouse. Additionally, various sponsorship opportunities still exist, for individuals, organizations, and corporations. Contact Tournament Directors Monica Malone (240.463.1607 / 202.628.3200 ext. 6084) or Lisa Couser (301.204.7135) with any questions, concerns or comments. Event specifics and registration information can be accessed by clicking on the images below. Come out and support DC Assault and the larger Washington area community October 16th. It’s sure to not only be fun, but beneficial to all concerned.
