March 18, 2008 – This weekend at Boyd, Maryland’s Discovery Sports Center, the DC Metro Showcase will once again provide exposure for young men of high school age, as over 80 teams between 17 and 13 will converge to display their skills and win the D.C. area’s first grassroots title of 2008. If last year’s event is a barometer, the participants will be well served. “Last year several unsigned seniors got into schools of various levels by either being seen at this event, or the All-Tournament team being seen by DI coaches whose eyebrows were raised” said Nima Omidvar, the event’s organizer and a well known assistant coach at Paul VI High School (Fairfax, VA), who is also one of Triple Threat’s (AAU) talented cadre of bench leaders. Current traditional or junior college, Showcase alumni include Deontay Twyman (Ball State), Wes Parker (Catholic University), Robert Nwankwo (Towson), Kevin Kennedy (Gettysburg), a trio of Polk County Junior College stars in Quincy Haukins, Rodney Mickens, and Donald Robinson, amongst others; all were uncommitted before attending last year’s event, and received broad exposure by participating. “The goal of this tournament is to create exposure for teams and players before the April live period either via DII, DIII, and NJCAA coaches” shared Omidvar, who also correctly indicated i95Ballerz.com will cover the preceedings in earnest, and this media outlet, along with others, will publish the important all-tourney team listings. Those teams will also be furnished to every Division I, II, and III program in the country. (Click here for last year’s all tournament teams) Action starts March 21st at 7 PM and continues through the 23rd, with play beginning at 8 PM on both the 22nd and 23rd, ending at 10pm and noon on those respective days. Whether coach, parent, or fan, be sure to catch the below listed teams – ranging from as far north as Canada - during this important event! U17
