Accumulating and distributing school supplies is via good hoops is the Summer Jam's focus.

August 18, 2011 – Some basketball events are put together simply for money, others to bring hoops to the community. And then there are those that combine aspects of both, aiding young people in the process. Deanwood Summer Jam is just such an event.

Held tomorrow, Friday August 18th at Deanwood Recreation Center (1350 49th Street, NE) in Washington DC, Deanwood Summer Jam boasts both high school and professional caliber players in two games – a high school travel team contest is on tap first, while the pros take the floor second. The first tilt tips at 6p.

There is no entry fee, but to support students in the area surrounding the newly re-opened H.D. Woodson High School, all in attendance are requested to bring school supplies for donation.

Devin Sweetney, headed to Japan this year to play professionally, is expected to play tomorrow at the Deanwood Summer Jam.

Talent wise, professionals such as Andrew ‘Spongebob’ Washington, Baby Shaq, Mike Creppy, Devin Sweetney, Corey Almond, Jamar ‘Silent Assassin’ Board and others will suit up. The amateurs will be Jalen Williams, Desmond Standback, Marquis Wright, Stephon Jiggers and many more.

Be sure to stop by and support the event’s organizer Brian Inge, and in the process ensure young people without will at least have school supplies this year. Of course good basketball will be present as well.
