September 17, 2008 – Basketball training has exploded into a sizeable business, with trainers starting to flood the growing market. Unfortunately many enter with concerns other than helping young people improve, basically personal agendas, designs such as delivering this young person to that travel team program, or in some cases college. It can become seedy. With that backdrop in mind, Hakim Hibbert is a breath of fresh air blowing in from Charm City. The wind is called Elite Level Basketball. “With Elite Level Basketball I want to provide basketball training, which I have been doing for almost two years, plus speed and agility training, tournaments and leagues to all kids, no matter what program they are in” said Hibbert, a graduate of Towson University recently. He later refreshingly added “I am doing this for the kids strictly and not to recruit any kids to any program… I want to give the kids no matter of their basketball affiliations or background a chance to come down and get some skill work in to start off their rec ball season”. Enter the Elite Level Basketball Skills Academy, to be held at Baltimore’s Carmelo Anthony Youth Center (1101 East Fayette Street). Consisting of two sessions determined by age grouping, boys and girls will be taught roundball basics in October and November. Following are the particulars: Session I: Ages 9-11 Session II: Ages 12-14 Hibbert on what the Elite Level Basketball Skills Academy will offer: “In the clinic we are going to put the kids through speed and agility training drills, along with offensive and defensive skill work. I am also working on getting high school coaches in the area to come check out some of the young talent we have...A camp tee shirt will be provided”. Choosing the clinics for Sunday’s was done to facilitate attendance of football playing youth, just another example of Hibbert’s desire for all to attend. Those interested contact Hakim Hibbert at 443.865.1579 or EliteLevelBBall@gmail.com. For young players, it’s a great move. Make it.
