"It's All About The Game"

The Festival is Back!

November 14, 2008 – Back by popular demand, high level boys high school hoops returns to the Capital Region generally and Upper Marlboro, MD’s Dr. Henry A. Wise High School specifically, via the DTLR National High School Hoops Festival Presented by Nike. This year’s event, a two day affair held December 6th and 7th, boasts 16 teams hailing from DC, MD, Baltimore, Virginia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Last year’s Festival, the event’s first, drew an estimated 1,500 spectators daily, along with 71 college coaches from all levels of collegiate hoops, attending to scout players. According to the event’s Director, Keith Stevens (who also leads the travel team organization Team Takeover), the motivation for hosting the Festival this year is similar to last, as “We just want make sure everybody comes and supports the event, which gives them an opportunity to see the kids”.

And what an opportunity that is, with the likes of these and other college signees participating: Maalik Wayns (Villanova), Dante Taylor (Pitt), Talib Zanna (Pitt), Reggie Bullock (UNC), Chris Braswell (UNC Charlotte), Mo Creek (Indiana), Terrell Vinson (Loyola Marymount), Josh Selby (Tenn), Kendall Marshall (UNC), Rashanti Harris (Georgia State), Lawrence Smith (NC A&T), David Golladay and Raven Barber (Mount St. Mary’s), Wayne Sparrow (Richmond). Furthermore, high school student athletes like Roscoe Smith, LaQuinton Ross, Rakeem Christmas and Vic Olidipo will also abound given the quality of high school boys basketball programs participating (see below for team listing and game schedule).

The cost is $10 per day, with discounted tickets available before hand at DTLR, the D.C./Baltimore based athletic merchandiser that is a prime sponsor of this year’s Festival, as is Nike.

Look no further than i95Ballerz.com for detailed written coverage of all Festival action – including individual team reports prior to its start - while MaxxAthletes.com is scheduled to broadcast the games. Expect a flurry of pre-Festival advertising on multiple outlets.

If you were there last year than you know what to expect. If you didn’t check it out before, make sure you do this year.
