Philanthropic effort still displays the best of hoops
June 2, 2009 – The Golden Child Award Foundation Charity Event is a must-do during the D.C. summer; Bill Wright, the event's organizer, and his crew do an excellent job planning and managing the confab. Of course the great hoops offered is just icing on the cake, as GCAF exists for something much bigger. "The Golden Child Award is an award given to a child who is going through or has gone through a physical or mental challenge due to an injury or adverse condition and has persevered" said Wright. "In the past eight years, the GCAF, a non-profit organization 501©3, has reached out to eight families and awarded their children who have gone through traumatic occurrences". Though this year's recipient - the event's proceeds are provided as a cash award to that young person - hasn't been determined, the eventual winner will be provided a much needed love gift. How is this melded to hoops you ask? In the form of a eight high school aged boy's teams battling for the Harris Bates trophy, while four pro-am caliber squads compete in a separate division. Furthermore, a single girl's game is offered as well. Specifics follow: HS teams: Riverdale Baptist, Flint Hill, T. C. Williams, Largo, Parkville
High (Baltimore), Madness Stars, Hoop-Booth Pro Am crews: Last year' champs Awash & Associates, Str8ballerz, Dunk-On-You, Universal Madness. Event Schedule The event will began Friday, June 19, 2009 at 6:45pm with two Pro-Am games. Saturday, June 20, 2009 start time will began at 9:45am and conclude
at 9:00pm. Championship Sunday: June 21, 2009 “A Fathers Day Treat” Start time will began at 12:30pm with a Girls High School “Feature Game” and the Boys High School Championship followed by the Pro-AM Championship game. Presentation of the “2009 Golden Child Award” will take place during the half-time of the Pro-AM Championship Game. Another announcement will follow. Be sure to be there. What better way can you spend Father's Day Weekend?
