January 6, 2009 –Billed as PG County 4A (MD) division’s Game of the Year, the first half didn’t live up to the notice, as Henry Wise and Eleanor Roosevelt – now 7-1/4-0 and 5-1/2-1 respectively – didn’t not play a high level of ball; both teams seemed to miss-fire offensively, with jump shots seemingly being at a premium. Actually for the game Roosevelt hit less than three outside shots, while Wise faired only slightly better. When the dust settled, Wise’s Pumas walked away with a 58-52 road win last night.
A pensive Golladay prepares to inbound the ball. Later in the third quarter, things changed, as the squads seemed to get their fast break mojo, attempting to get buckets by beating the other down the floor. Senior swingman David Golladay was the man of the hour. “We needed some baskets and to get to the line, so I tried to attack” said Golladay, who will play for Mount St. Joseph next year of his game plan. The end result were repeated layups: During a key early fourth quarter stretch when the teams traded leads, Golladay scored 12 points, all at the rim. For the game he accounted for 25 points, a career high. Those buckets were necessary given Raider swingman Lasan Kromah’s 20 points, in addition to classmate Francis Ashe’s 15. Kromah, nicknamed ‘Kobe’ by some courtside scored from his trademark long distance but also in fast break settings. Ashe, a point guard, notched his numbers via layups or trips to the charity stripe. Wise also enjoyed double figures from seniors Phil Wood (14 points) –
who also attacked the rim playing both point and shooting guard –
and Delonta ‘Big 50’ Boyd (11 points) - a frontcourt man that
when receives the ball generally scores or gets to the line.
