Starks supplies 19 points and key plays in victory.

January 27, 2010 - Georgetown Prep, last night finding itself tied at 26 at half - only due to a buzzer-beating three pointer by senior swingman Nat Eggleston (his only points of the game) - and later down 44-38 after St. Albans' senior forward Glen Thomas (11 points, 13 rebounds) hit from deep in the corner, saw momentum against it; the homestanding Bulldogs looked poised for an upset. A certain point guard headed to Georgetown University next year had other designs.

Markel Starks looks to finish on the break.

Senior guard Markel Starks, the player in question, would soon thereafter hit a deep three pointer, capping his team's comeback, giving Prep the lead 49-48. The Prepsters went on to win 53-48, with Starks making crucial baskets and passes.

When asked about the shot, Starks, who scored 19 points said, "We needed that knock down, it was 46-48 and we needed to get up. They were hanging around, hanging around, we had to put them away. That was a big time three, thank God I hit it".

Of equal note was the return to coaching action by Georgetown Prep's Dwayne Bryant. Having had surgery related to his heart this past week, the longtime Prep coach felt he needed to lead his squad, and did so. Afterward, he was visibly fatigued, yet satisfied with his team's win. Thomas led St. Albans in scoring, while fellow frontcourt guy, junior Spencer Barks tallied 10 points. Thurgood Wynn, a senior guard set to play at and enroll in Navy, supplied 15 for Prep, now 13-4 overall and 4-1 in IAC league action. St. Albans is an inverse 1-4 in that conference, and stands 6-8 for the season.

Note: Coaches from Howard University, Georgetown and Bucknell were present.

Unsung Play: Junior forward Taylor Abt makes a late, possibly game saving block on a shot by Hakeem Harrison, himself a third year guard.
