DC-B'Mo well represented in A10 slugfest.
February 23, 2010 - George Washington held off UMass Wednesday, 66-60, in a hotly contested Atlantic 10 battle. Four points was all that seperated the teams throughout, and that familiarity, in score and generally, along with a physical bent, produced a certain level of chippiness. A subplot of the contest was DC/B'More's impact on the contest, as four of the teams' prime players hail from that region, with a fifth being reshirted. Below is a review of each's impact.
Lasan Kromah shoots in the second half. Lasan Kromah - 6'5" Fr, G - 22 points, five rebounds - Kromah has proven to be a success for GW this year, averaging 11 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Against UMass, he dropped 22 points - 16 in the crucial second half - and five rebounds. Lasan, who attended E. Roosevelt (Greenbelt, MD) is in the running for first team A10 All Rookie honors. Kromah can be heard discussing acclaimating to his minute total, this game, and adjusting to school by clicking the preceding links. Terrell Vinson - 6'6" Fr, F - 10 points, four boards - Vinson, a Charm City guy has been a major cog in UMass' attack this year, as the starter averages 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds each time out. six of is points came from the charity stripe, while also sinking a three ball and regular field goal. His coach, Derek Kellogg talks about him here.
Terrell Vinson and Ricky Harris (5) Ricky Harris - 6'2" Sr, PG - 10 points, six dimes - Hailing from B'More, Harris leads UMass in points and assists (19.5, 2.9), landing him in the discussion for A10 player of the year. What's not known is, Harris is not a natural point guard, having grown up a two-man. This site has exclusive audio of Ricky discussing the transition, along with him talking about this contest.
Javon Farrell pats the ball. Javon Farrell - 6'5" Fr, F - 4 rebounds - With his participation truncated to only seven minutes due to disqualification, UMass missed Farrell's toughness on the court, a quality Ricky Harris lauded him for. For the season Javon has chipped in 4.2 points and 3.6 boards a game.
Freshman Raphiael Putney of Woodbridge, VA will likely redshirt this season for UMass. Extras: GW head coach, Karl Hobb's presser
