Hoop Planet's Spring Classic is set to be a great tourney. Teams are encouraged to enter, and fans are welcome to attend.
April 9, 2009 - With April not being a NCAA-sanctioned coaches evaluation period, high level tournaments are not dime-a-dozen during that month. To that end, James Dare and Emilio Roberts have developed an alternative, one that will boast big time competition, or 'bump'. "The coaches can't come out, and we just want to give the young people a chance to play that weekend" said Dare, a nine year coach in the DC Assault organization of the motivation for developing the Hoop Planet Spring Classic. "Particularly those not going to Ohio for King James".
The Classic's date is April 24th - 26th, and will take place at Alexandria, VA's West Potomac High School. Cost is $350 per team, with a three game guarantee and two squads coming out of pool play. Age groups participating are boys, between 15 and under through 17 and under classifications. Slots are available in all sections, and Dare noted "All teams are welcome, regardless of shoe company affiliation". Illustrating the tourney's inclusive nature, "DC Assault (Adidas), Team Takeover (Nike), probably Delaware Takeover (Nike) and the Hoop Planet All Stars from Atlanta" are scheduled to compete, according to Dare. A hotel accommodations package has been brokered by Dare and Roberts, while the latter will also ensure his clothing line, Hoop Planet, will be available on site, along with refreshments. Direct all inquires to James Dare (240.605.3273) or Emilio Roberts (202.421.6999). See you there. It will not only be good bump, but a finely run affair. In addition to great competition.
