Ken Johnson decides to kick it up a notch in coaching.

May 29, 2011 – Those involved in boy’s youth hoops in the DC/B’More corridor know the name Ken Johnson, as he’s been a fixture in both high school and travel team competition for years. And to his credit, everywhere he goes, success seems to follow him. Supporters of the Towson Tigers hope he brings his mojo to the CAA, as Johnson becomes an assistant coach at that school.

After spending four years at Paul VI (VA) and six years on the travel team scene, Johnson, a 1999 graduate of University of Maryland – College Park with a degree in Cellular Molecular Biology and Genetics is jumping to Towson because as he shared last night “I have always aspired to attain a college coaching position”.

That would provide the mechanism to meet his “passion” of helping “young men achieve their athletic goals while aiding them in the accrual of a free of subsidized education, which in turn will affect their families for generations to come; helping to put them in better financial and educational position out of college without having to repay student loans”.

Dialogue sessions are commom with Johnson and players.

At the end of the summer, that would be 73 players, 61 destinted for Division I basketball. Talking to Johnson, it’s clear he’s honest in saying he loves both the game and the young men playing it.

Johnson joins first year Head Coach Pat Skerry at Towson. The school’s new staff should be well led and positioned to recruit well, an necessity in winning at any collegiate level. Just ask Team Takeover’s Director, Keith Stevens.

“I think he helped build the program, was my right hand for last four years” said Stevens of Johnson’s invaluable impact. “He brought consistency and helped groom our kids as ball players and young men”.

“I think he’s going to be a star in the business” continued Stevens. “He’s one of those guys with the determination; he will not fail”.
