October 16, 2008 – The 2nd Annual JT III Foundation Community Fest jumps off Saturday, October 18th. Kids and adults are welcome.

In partnership with the DC Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Recreation Wish List Committee of Washington and Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) – which is simultaneously hosting the 11th Annual Heart Tennis Experience – Community Fest will provide young people a plethora of experiences; games, arts and crafts, music, basketball clinics and fitness activities. From an adult perspective over 25 Anacostia-based community groups will furnish information regarding what they offer.

Celebrities such as Thompson, current head mens coach at Georgetown University, former world ranked tennis professional Zina Garrison, D.C. Ward 8 Councilman Marion Barry and WPGC FM’s Donnie Simpson will all be on hand.

“It should be a fun time” said Thompson of the event during Georgetown’s recent men’s basketball media day. “Donnie Simpson is playing Zina Garrison in a tennis match – I’m judging. And then we have arts and crafts, we have games for the kids. Our guys will be there playing basketball and working with the kids”.

Open to all, the Fest will be held at Oxon Run Park and SETLC (Mississippi Avenue and Wheeler Road, SE Washington, DC). The time is 11 am to 3 pm, and all activities are free.

Created in 2007 with the expressed purpose of partnering with organizations involved in education and/or preventative health care - specifically in underserved areas - the John Thompson III Foundation clearly is meeting its mantra with its 2nd Annual JT III Foundation Community Fest.

Furthering that effort, Monica Thompson, the Foundation’s Executive Director, has extended an invitation to all community-based organizations and government entities interested in participating. She’s available at 202.508.8250 or MThompson@JTIIIFoundation.org.
