August 13, 2009 – The Jabbo Kenner League’s playoff schedule commenced this evening, and based on playoff seating one surprise was generated, while the other contest’s outcome was as expected. Brief write-ups are below.

For tomorrow’s schedule – the remainder of quarterfinal action – can be seen on www.Twitter.com/ronbailey19, including teams and times (730p and 840p). Of course all games are at Georgetown’s McDonough Arena.

Clyde’s 66 DCX 52

Up by 20 late in the game, Clyde’s held on to down the more highly seated DCX (who came into the Kenner League Finals slotted second, while Clyde’s was seventh). Two sophomore Georgetown University performers Jason Clark and Henry Sims led the way for the victors with 13 points apiece, while Chase Adams, a senior transfer to Pitt, dropped 12.

Mo Creek paced DCX with 21 points, while John Flowers chipped in 18; Creek is an incoming freshman at Indiana and Flowers, in his junior year, attends West Virginia.

Isaiah Swann waits for the clock to finalize his Beyond Belief team's quarter final victory.

Beyond Belief 77 Tombs 67

Tombs, led by G’Town junior Austin Freeman (18 points) and Tombs were extinguishing a 12 point deficit with over eight minutes to go, before Israeli-league performer Isaiah Swann (28 points) hit a three pointer while being fouled. Swann missed the charity stripe chance, got the rebound, but Beyond Belief couldn't’t further capitalize.

Tombs continued their march, being down only four with a minute to go, but incoming Pitt Panther Dante Taylor (9 points) failed to convert a layup made possible by a Freeman steal, ending the team's scoring.

Virginia Tech junior, Jeff Allen scored 13 points for the victors. Freshman Charlotte 49’er Chris Braswell chipped in 11 for Tombs.
