Kurtis Woods, a 6’4 guard/forward from Lee High (Huntsville, AL) is narrowing his list of schools down as we get close to the spring signing period on April 11.

Teams such as UTEP, South Carolina, Old Dominion, East Carolina, Western Kentucky and Morehead State have all been checking for Woods the entire season.

“All of them have been in to visit and UTEP will be back on Monday”, stated Lee High head coach Greg Brown. Morehead State and East Carolina came calling last week and have really picked up their pursuit of the sharp-shooting Woods.

Kurtis Woods is nearing his college decison.

With the spring signing period fast approaching, Kurtis has an upcoming decision to make, but he doesn’t feel the pressure to choose a particular school over another.

“I like them all, but if I had to name a top three I’d say UTEP, South Carolina and Morehead State, at the present time.” When asked if there was a leader heading down the stretch, Woods mentioned, “UTEP”.

Woods, who always could shoot the ball, rounded out his game this season without sacrificing any scoring ability. Laced with more drives to the basket and better overall intensity, Kurtis averaged 22 points, five assists and four rebounds per game, leading Lee to a birth in the Regional Playoffs.

At 6’4, Kurtis also became more of a floor general this season and got his teammates more involved, especially high-major teammate Chase Robinson.

“That’s what I was trying to do. I’ve worked real hard to improve my overall game and it really paid off”.

It’s easy to see why schools have increased their interest in Woods, as his skill development took him from a low major recruit to the mid/high level.

One thing college programs won’t have to worry about with Kurtis is grades. Woods has already qualified and scored a 23 on the ACT.

In summarizing his game, Kurtis is a nice athlete with good size, a deadly perimeter stroke and an improving handle, who sees the floor well and finishes around the basket. Woods, while not slight, will need added strength to combat the physicality shown on the collegiate level.
