High-scoring guard picks Mocs over Georgia Southern, others
May 15, 2007 - Kurtis Woods, a 6’4 senior guard from Lee High (Hunstville, AL), has chosen to continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Teams such as UTEP, South Carolina, Old Dominion, East Carolina, Western
Kentucky and Morehead State and Georgia Southern had all been inquiring
about Woods the entire season. Kurtis, who has never been shy about shooting the ball, will have ample opportunity to do so with the fast paced Mocs. “The coaches told me that I’d have the freedom to shoot the ball and their style of play suites my game well.” Kurtis averaged 22 points, five assists and four rebounds per game last season for Lee High. At 6’4, Kurtis will create miss matches for defenders with his ability to play three positions and stroke the jumper from anywhere. It’s easy to see why Chattanooga stepped up their interest in Woods, as his work ethic and skill development propelled him into the mid-major recruit. Also, Kurtis has already qualified and scored a 23 on the ACT. “I really liked the athletic and campus living facilities too. The overall environment for the students, especially the athletes, was a big plus.” Kurtis hasn’t signed a letter-of-intent as of yet and will consult with current Coach Greg Brown on a signing date. Upon signing, Woods will be apart of a five man class for Coach John
Shulman that includes former University of Alabama forward Verice Cloyd.
