The Hall welcomes Eugene McCrory.
February 16, 2010 - The name Eugene McCrory is not necessarily readily on the lips of those who follow college hoops recruiting; despite having a solid travel team season with Team Takeover, his transfer from Paul VI (VA) to KIMA (DC) for his senior year seemed to remove him from everyday acknowledgement. Luckily for McCrory colleges still took notice, with the likes of Drexel, St. Bonnaventure, Fairfield, Jacksonville, and Georgetown showing him love, to various degrees.
Eugene McCrory (24) dealing in the paint. But Seton Hall trumped them all, providing the only scholarship offer according to McCrory's mom, Ann Duncan. And her son jumped at the opportunity. Apparently McCrory, whom she reported had grown to around 6'8" and 235 pounds, unofficially visited The Hall upon attending "their home game on Sunday (a 79-71 win over DePaul)", and committed then. At KIMA, McCrory has logged averages of 17.5 points and 12 caroms a game according to Duncan. The school likes to get up and down offensively - and all the while Eugene has shown an ability to not only bang around the tin, but fill lanes, defend, and hit mid-range shots. That kind of work should prepare him for Seton Hall's uptempo attac, directed by head man Bobby Gonzalez. The Pirate's staff expect Eugene to be a power forward in college. Nevertheless, there are those who have slotted McCrory for a mid-major school. Eugene, his mom, and family, aren't listening to that chatter. "Eugene's stats and overall performance on the court speaks for it all" responded Duncan when asked about such sentiment. She also indicated no other opportunities will be examined, as her son will indeed ink a letter of intent with Seton Hall during April's signing period. Congrats to Eugene McCrory, for carving out a name for himself, and being rewarded for it. He's proof positive hard work and persistence pays off.
