Hardnosed DC swingman is adjusting to Big 12 play.

May 28, 2010 - Finishing the 2009-2010 logging 3.9 points and 2.8 per contest, many may assume based solely on his numbers Kansas State freshman swingman Rodney McGruder didn't have a solid year. As the saying goes, 'Not'. The game of roundball can't be solely understood through stats.

"If anybody else didn't notice, he had a string of great games when he helped the team win" shared fellow first year K-State student athlete and DC Assault (AAU) alumni Wally Judge", when asked about McGruder's freshman campaign during DCA's recent Take Your Best Shot tournament. AT the same event, McGruder said of his freshman year "I had a lot of ups and downs".

McGruder looks up during TYBS action.

What did the experience teach him? "Just stick with it. Don't give up".

That's the spirit that has propelled Rodney to the Big 12 - a conference in which he said "every game is tough". McGruder offered this advice to others who aspire to be college ballers: "Just work hard, never give up, never listen to what other people say about you".

The sky's the limit for McGruder. He's a kid that is solid on and off the floor.
