October 2, 2007 – Basketball enthusiasts in the Mid-Atlantic region clear your calendars for December 8th and 9th, because as the saying goes, ‘it’s on’! Coming to Henry Wise High School (Upper Marlboro, MD) is a virtually unprecedented national level high school round ball event. Prepare for the National High School Hoops Festival.

Brought to you by the Director of Triple Threat (AAU) and a force on the D.C. hoops scene, Keith Stevens, as well as talented high school and Triple Threat coach Ken Johnson – they are Director and Assistant Director of the Festival respectively – Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th will boast incredible, all-day hoops action. The schedule follows:

Saturday, Dec. 8th

11am – Laurel (Laurel, MD) vs McNamara (Forrestville, MD)
1pm – Wise vs Riverdale Baptist (Largo, MD)
3pm – St. Raymond (Bronx, NY) vs Archbishop Carroll (DC)
5pm – South Kent Prep (South Kent, CT) vs Patterson School (Lenoir, NC)
7pm – South Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX) vs Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA)

Sunday, Dec. 9th

1pm – Paul VI (Fairfax, VA) vs St. Frances (Baltimore, MD)
3pm – American Christian (Aston, PA) vs Patterson School
5pm – Towson Catholic (Towson, MD) vs DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD)

What was the impetus for such a showcase of both Washington/B’more and national talent? “I’m just trying to bring some good, high level basketball to the area” shared Stevens, who in three short years has made Triple Threat a force to be recognized in big-time travel team hoops. “In getting national teams, we are trying to get our kids an opportunity to play against different talent, an opportunity to play against some of the best”.

Johnson, who also serves as an assistant at Paul VI and will be on that team’s sideline in what will be their second game of the season when facing St. Frances, agreed, before adding “It definitely help prepare us for facing good teams in front of big crowds. An event of this magnitude can only help”.

With a slate of games such as this, held at Wise’s state of the art facility, there is no doubt that all of the participating teams will benefit, but so will patrons, who get treated to some of the best high school hoops in America, early in the season.
