June 27, 2008 - At last week's National Basketball Association Players Association's Top 100 Camp, held at the University of Virginia, talented high school student athletes from all over the nation converged to enjoy competition and classes. Following are several from East Coast locations, that excelled.
Cadarian Raines - A rugged 6'8", 225 pound PF/C, Raines hails from Petersburg, VA and brings an ethic to the game similar to another product of that city, Moses Malone. That's not to say Raines will be one of the best to strap it up like Malone was, but as Moses did, Cadarian loves to 'take it to the rack'. In addition to rugged interior play, Raines, a senior runs the floor well and competes. Maryland, Va Tech, ECU and South Florida have all offered scholarships. Oklahoma has shown strong interest, while other schools have as well.
Tony Chenault - One word that epitomizes this North Philly product is tough; he exhibits it in all facets of the game, including offense, defense, and effort. Standing 6'1", 175 pounds, Chenault, a junior, is rounding into a solid point guard - currently he's more of a combo - where he will play in college. The likes of Louisville, Pitt, Virginia, St. Joes and others have offered, while Villanova, Wake Forest, Texas, Florida and USC are heavily interested.
Doron Lamb - A NYC guard, the junior, 6'3", 180 pound Lamb carries all that label holds - he loves getting to the rack, will pass when the opportunity presents itself, and competes. Doron needs to work on his off-hand (left) and outside shot - the latter another trait many NYC guards hold - but make no bones about it, he's a big time talent. Resultantly, Doron has received recruiting information from Syracuse, Kansas, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Duke, Georgetown, Marquette, and others.
Myck Kabongo - Only a sophomore, Kabongo showed in NBAPA Top 100 play himself to be one of the best point guard prospects competing in the event - his ability to set up teammates and score when necessary are well beyond his years. Attending Newark, NJ's St. Benedicts, Kabongo, who is 5'11" and 160 pounds must get stronger going forward, but according to sources has almost the entire Big East drooling. Rest assured the ACC, A10, and other conferences are not far behind.
Kenny Boynton - Having attended the Top 100 last year and turned heads, Boynton further cemented his status as a top recruit this year, being named MVP for his ability to score driving and from the perimeter. Boynton never stopped attacking defenders. Never. Given his 6'2", 185 pound stature, the South Florida native must become more of a point guard - he can pass, just needs to exhibit it more - but there is no questioning his talent. Currently, the senior guard holds scholarship offers from Ga Tech, Memphis, Texas, Ohio State, Wake Forest, Duke, and Tennessee.
