DMV well rep’ed in NHSI action!

Four of 12 DMV teams are from DMV.

March 28, 2012 - Held Thursday, through Saturday, the National High School Invitational, in its fourth year, has become a District-Maryland-Virginia institution, allowing DMV fans to enjoy some of the best high school players – female and male – in hoops play. The area is also well represented amongst the 12 teams participating, as a third of that number or local schools.

In the boys bracket, Coolidge (DC) and Montrose Christian (MD) will participate, with the former playing NHSI’s top ranked team, Findlay Prep (NV) at 8p on Thursday. Number three Montrose takes on seventh slotted Ravenscroft (NC) that day. Tip-off is 4p. There is an interesting twist of seeding; Coolidge (30-8), who defeated Montrose (20-2) this season, will play the Mustangs only if both won out and reached Saturday’s championship round; the NHSI is a single elimination event.

DMV schools Riverdale Baptist (MD) and HD Woodson (DC) are the 1st and third seeded NHSI girl’s teams, respectively. Both begin play Saturday, with Riverdale (35-2) playing fourth seed Edgewater (FL) at 3:30p, followed by Woodson (25-5) battling number two ranked Dr. Phillips (FL), a 5:30p tip. Again, the two DMV juggernauts would meet again in the championship round, and played earlier this season – a RB trouncing.

All games will be played at Georgetown Prep’s Hanley Center (10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD). Tickets are available there, with admission being $10 generally, $5 for students. Parking exists on site. The ESPN network will broadcast all games.
