May 27, 2009– PRINCETON DAY'S THORNE & ROBINSON ANNOUNCE COLLEGE CHOICES Shenandoah and Robert Morris Net Storm's Top Reserves
Princeton Day Academy (Lanham, MD) and head coach Van Whitfield are pleased to share that two student-athletes have announced their college selections. 6'4" guard/forward Sheldon Thorne will be attending Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia and and 6'0" guard Angelo Robinson will be attending Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
Thorne, who will play for Head Coach Robert T. Harris at Shenandoah, was an Honorable Mention All-Tournament selection at the prestigious Nike iS8 Fall Classic in New York, where he led all scorers in the quarterfinals with a 26 point, 14 rebound effort. In Sheldon, the Hornets get a tough-minded defensive stopper and rebounder who is the consummate team player.
Robinson, who plans to walk-on with the Colonials, delivered game-saving performances at the NACA National Championships in Dayton, Tennessee, where his heady play and timely three-pointers helped advance the Storm to the national title game. A talented ball-handler and a smooth-stroking perimeter threat, Angelo can successfully play both the point and off-guard positions.
The former Lackey HS teammates along with their Princeton Day Storm teammates finished with a 33-3 record and a #6 national ranking by the National Private School Athletic Association (NPSAA) while helping PDA lay claim as the only private school in America to advance to two national title games this season (the NACA in Dayton, TN and the NCSAA in Erie, PA).
Earlier, Princeton Day announced that 6’9” forward Jon Underwood had signed to accept a scholarship to Missouri, which advanced to the NCAA Elite 8 in March and that 6'2" Dwayne Wheeler had signed to accept a scholarship to Charleston University in West Virginia. Last season, Baltimore native, Beloved Rogers earned a scholarship to Oral Roberts University after graduating from Princeton Day.
Head Coach Van Whitfield, Trainer Bill Wright and the Princeton Day Academy Storm congratulate Sheldon and his parents Lorenzo Thorne and Sedatrist Ballard as well as Angelo and his parents Angelo, Sr. and Carol Robinson on these outstanding opportunitities for the latest Former-Stormers to further their studies and earn college degrees.
