Tide still in the picture

November 5, 2006 - Decatur High School senior point guard Rico Pickett has de-committed from the University of Alabama Crimson Tide last week.

I spoke with Rico’s dad, Rico senior, this week about his son’s current recruitment and the circumstances surrounding the re-opening of his recruitment.

“Rico decided he wanted to make sure he didn’t rush in making an initial decision”, said Rico, Sr. Pickett gave a verbal pledge to Alabama in June.

The younger Pickett posted averages of 20 points and seven assists per contest, while leading Decatur High to the state 6A playoffs last season.

“Alabama is definitely still in the picture. He just wanted to be certain of his decision”, said the elder Pickett.

Pickett, Jr. is currently listing N.C. State, Florida State and Illinois, in addition to the Crimson Tide.

Rico is already qualified academically, having scored a 22 on his ACT, so he can focus on continued improvement on the hardwood, as well as, make an informed decision about his collegiate choice.
