December 3, 2007 - The National High School Hoops Festival looks to be the premier high school hoops event in the DC/Baltimore area this year, boasting national prep and high schools along with top local teams, in competitive hoops action. One such standout squad is Connecticut’s South Kent School. Bringing their well known prep team, South Kent is one of the prime draws of the Festival, as its coach, Raphael Chillious has one of the most talented rosters in the nation. Up front, seniors Christian Morris, a 6’8” banger headed to Rutgers along with up and coming seven footer and future Virginia pivot man, Assane Sene, standout. Both should be impact players in college.
Future Rutgers University banger, Chris Morris If South Kent’s ‘bigs’ are impressive, then its backcourt crew is awe-inspiring. Leading the list is 5’8” senior point guard Isaiah Thomas, who despite his size can put up numbers in bunches, and will do so next year for the University of Washington. Adding significant offensive punch, as well as the ability to lock up opponents is highly recruited, 6’4” guard Maurice ‘Mo’ Creek. Korean national and future Maryland Terp, Jin Soo Kim, stands at 6’9” and can shoot the lights out, therefore must also be reckoned with. Last but not least is sophomore Dion Waiters, who is 6’2” and has already committed to Syracuse, despite is status as only a sophomore. And those guys are just the better known players on South Kent’s roster. The Festival’s chief organizer, Keith Stevens, is happy to have
South Kent involved. “I think they are the type of team with a lot
of talent” said Stevens. “They have high skill players and
will be a good match up with Patterson (School, their December 9th foe)…There
will be 20 high major players on that court”.
