Starghill's Shots: Paul VI vs DeMatha

Photographer/Journalist Mike Starghill chronicles DeMatha's 68-63 win over visiting Paul VI last Friday.

February 9, 2009 – By all accounts, DeMatha's (MD) homestanding victory over Paul VI (VA) last week was a battle, the type of game that is etched in observers minds. Unfortunately i95Ballerz.com did not cover the contest in terms of writing, but one of our photo partners, Mike Starghill was present, capturing all the action for posterity.

For the record, senior and future Va Tech Hokie Erick Green led all scorers with 28 points, while his fellow Paul VI Panther, sophomore Dion Jones chipped in 13. The team's overall record is now 8-8.

Naji Hibbert (12 points) initiates the action around the goal here.

DeMatha (19-3) saw senior Marcus Rouse - a Stonybrook signee - score points, while highly recruited junior Jerian Grant tickled the twine to the tune of 18 points.

Paul VI and DeMatha, 9-2 and 5-7 in Washington Catholic Athletic Conference play respectively, don't meet up again in regular season action, but could be destined for a return engagement in the league's playoffs.

Could the Stags beat Paul VI three times in one season? Fans only hope they are givien the opportunity to see.
