Age before beauty was operative today.

 

November 10, 2011 - The Howard University Bison used a strong defense led by linebacker Keith Pough to defeat the Hampton Pirates 10-7 Saturday, and stop a 14 game losing steak to their arch rivals from Virginia.

The Bison used a ball control offense to control the clock and keep the Pirates offense on the sidelines. Terrance Lefall rushed for 131 yards on 42 carries to lead Howard to their fifth win of the season.

"The plan was to give the ball to Terrance and control the clock," said head coach Gary Harrell at his post game news
conference.

The Bison have the week off and they will travel to Delaware, November the 19th to face Delaware State.

In other scores Bowie State was defeated by Chowan
College 38-35. Norfolk State remained in first place of the MEAC conference with their 45-3 win over Savannah St. 45-3; the Spartans are now 8-2 on the season, 6-1 in MEAC play. North Carolina Central defeated Delaware State 14-7, Florida A&M beat North Carolina A&T 26-20 and Bethune-Cookman defeated Morgan St.

Down south, Alabama A&M beat Alcorn St. 28-17and Grambling St. edge Jackson St. 26-23. Gardner Webb beat Virginia St. 34-13. Texas Southern took out Southern 29-15 and Virginia Union defeated Fayetteville 17-14.

The BCS $ run for the money featured LSU and Alabama with the Tigers prevailing in overtime 9-6. LSU is now the solid number one team in Division one NCAA football and the favorite to participate in the BCS championship contest which features a 37 million dollar payout. The attendance Saturday night was 101,821.

Oklahoma St., Stanford, Boise St, and Houston are the lone remaining undefeated teams in NCAA division one football.

The BCS poll, which ranks the teams in the running for the nation's top payday, has the Cowboys of Oklahoma State ranked second followed by Alabama, Stanford and Boise St. The Houston Cougars who play in Conference USA are ranked 11th. Stay tuned for next week’s results.

This week’s national network gate buster will feature Oregon at Stanford on ABC.

In MEAC games this weekend, Delaware State travels to Hampton to face the Pirates. South Carolina State hosts North Carolina A&T. Florida A&M heads to North Carolina Central and Bethune-Cookman hosts Savannah St.

Hhigh school playoff action starts this weekend with the following games slated for Friday, November 11th. All games will start at 7pm: Good Counsel hosts St. John’s, Patuxent welcomes Douglass, Gleneg hosts Gwynn Park, Gaithersburg travels to Churchill, Quince Orchard sets up for BCC, Paint Branch travels to Catonsville. and Seneca Valley hosts Thomas Johnson.

On Saturday the DCIAA playoffs begin with Coolidge at HD Woodson - kickoff is set for 2pm. At 4:30pm Dunbar hosts Ballou.

All PG Country games start at 1pm, and include CH Flowers at E. Roosevelet and , Parkdale traveling to Wise. The county's Potomac takes a hike to Westlake.

Another WCAC contest sees Gonzaga hosting DeMatha, with a 1pm kickoff.
