November 22, 2010 - Delaware State came from behind
to defeat the Howard University Bison 39-36 at home to spoil the Bison
attempt for a winning season.
The Hornets scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to secure the win behind
the efforts of quarterback Nick Elko. Elko threw for three touchdowns
in the Hornet win.
Howard made a valiant effort in the end, but Parker Munoz’s 34 yard
field goal was short as time ran out.
Howard fell to 5-6 on the season, Delaware State improved to 3-8 on the
year.

Senior Karou Diakite (52) and junior Darrion Locke (75),
are offenisve line stalwarts for Churchill.
The Maryland Terrapins fell to Wake Forest 31-10. The Terps
fell to 2-9 on the season. Maryland travels to Raleigh to face the Wolfpack
of North Carolina State.
In other college scores Bethune-Cookman beat Florida A&M 26-16 in
the Florida Classic. Hampton defeated Morgan State 42-18. South Carolina
State defeated Savannah St 20-10. North Carolina A&T beat North Carolina
Central 31-21. Jackson State defeated Alcorn St. 51-7. California (Pa.)

The continuous weekly saga of BCS $ football this past weekend provided
us with usual bevy of upsets we come accustomed to.
Oklahoma State led the parade falling from the ranks of the
unbeaten losing to Iowa St. 37-31. Oregon not to be outdone dropped their
prime time show case to USC 38-35. Baylor defeated Oklahoma 45-38 to complete
the trifecta for this past weekend. My personal favorite the Houston Cougars
just keep winning in conference USA in hopes of securing a BCS $ bowl
spot.
The BCS $ title game has never featured a rematch which could change this
year if the cards fall in the right places. The SEC the past decade has
touted its conference as number one in the nation, with debate from the
other conferences touting their membership schools as being just as competitive.
This year the SEC West features LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas. They are currently
ranked numbers one, two,and three in the current polls. In the east Georgia
(9-2) and South Carolina (9-2) led by the ball coach are no slouches either.
This weekend the turmoil continues in the SEC and nationally
as LSU (11-0) hosts Arkansas (10-1) Friday at 2:30 CBS network with the
call. On Saturday its Alabama (10-1) at Auburn (7-4) CBS will feature
the telecast Saturday at 3:30.
In high school football Chris McPherson’s 24 yard field goal
with 7 seconds remaining led the undefeated Cougars of Quince Orchard
to a 23-21 win over the Bulldogs of Churchill to capture the 4A Western
Division title.
The Cougars behind running back Mark Green who rushed for 168 yards and
two touchdowns improved their record to 12-0 on the season.
The Cougars led 7-0 after the first quarter on a 12 yard run by Mark Green.
In the second quarter the Bulldogs responded with a 27 yard pass from
Lansana Keita to Quan Gill. The Cougars came right back with a 4 yard
run by Green to take a 14-7 lead. Churchill promptly responded on a 4
yard run by Keita.
Quince Orchard scored the lone touchdown in the third quarter on a one
yard plunge by Cougar quarterback Bill Plante.
The fourth quarter saw the Bulldogs take a 21-20 lead on Keita’s
second touchdown of the game with nine and a half minutes remaining.
The Cougars on their last offensive possession behind the running of Mark
Green moved the ball to Churchill’s ten yard line which set up the
winning field goal with seconds remaining. Churchill finished their season
with a record of 10-2.
Churchill head coach Joe Allen spoke with his players after the game.
“ I love each one of you guys. You made history this year, nobody
in this county is better than you. We have a program here and we are going
to get better.”
Quince Orchard will travel to CH Flowers (9-3) the PG 4 A champion with
the kickoff set for 7pm.
In the WCAC Championship contest Good Counsel defeated St. John’s
42-0. It was the Falcons third consecutive WCAC championship.
Wes Brown led the way with 157 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
Dorrian O’ Daniel chipped in with 99 yards and two touchdowns as
the Falcons dominated with the run game.
