The football season ended with the New York Giants representing the NFC Eastern Division capturing Super Bowl XLVI with a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis before a crowd of 68,658.

It was the Giants seventh consecutive win of the season with
their defense playing a key role in their late season run to the title.

The Giants who trailed 10-9 after the half proceeded to score the last 18 points in that championship match up. The Giants last defeat ironically was to the Redskins.

The Giants took the lead on Ahmad Bradshaw’s one yard
“fall” with 57 seconds remaining. Bradshaw led all rushers with 72 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Eli Manning (30-40-296) was voted as the games MVP.

In the association the Washington Wizards defeated the Toronto Raptors 111-108 in overtime at the Verizon Center. John Wall led the home team with 31 points and 7 assist. Nick Young chipped in with 29. Trevor Booker who has received more playing time since Randy Wittman took
over as head coach added 19 points and 4 rebounds.

The Wizards record now stands at 5-20. The home team will
host the Knicks on Wednesday and the Heat on Friday.

In college hoops the Georgetown Hoyas defeated South Florida 75-45 as five Hoyas scored in double digits.
Henry Sims 13 points, and 9 rebounds led the Hoyas in scoring. Otto Porter 12 points, Jason Clark 11 points, Jabril Trawick 10 points, and Markel Starks 10 points completed the quintet of scorers for the Hoyas who improved to 18-4 (8-3 in Big East).

“ Our offense wasn’t very good today and Georgetown played well.” said South Florida head coach Stan Heath. “Georgetown’s a good basketball team. They’re more talented last year, much better team this year and their length bothers you.”

The Hoyas travel to Syracuse to face the Orangemen Wednesday night at 7pm. (ESPN)

The Howard Bison stopped their eight game losing streak to the Bears of Morgan State defeating their rivals from Baltimore 54-46 on the road.

Howard was led by Prince Okoroh’s 14 points. The Bison improved to 6-18, (3-8 in MEAC).

The Bison hosts Florida A@M Saturday at 3pm.

In high school hoops some big games coming up. Wednesday Coolidge will hosts Roosevelt at 5pm. Gonzaga travels to DeMatha on Friday. The Eagles will then host Paul VI on Sunday.

Riverdale Baptist (27-2) is having a great season under head coach Lou Wilson. E. Roosevelt (15-3), Gwynn Park (14-4), Largo (15-3), Montrose Christian (15-2), Episcopal (16-2) and Bullis (20-3) are just a few teams that have been successful this season.
