The dates are July 10-12. The site is VCU in Richmond, VA.

June 25, 2009 - With July being the sole evaluation period available for Division I coaches this year, the importance of competing in the right tournament is paramount; due to the truncated period of time Division I coaches can hit the road and see student athletes play in the summer, and an explosion of ournaments occurring during the period they can, attending the wrong one may sink the hopes of a scholarship for young people.

Butch Cherry's Super Elite Showcase aims to serve young people well.

"It's for the youth" said Cherry, a long time DC Assault coach, of his motivation for organizing the event. "To try and get them an opportunity to be seen by college coaches, ane eventually earn a college scholarship".

Scheduled for July 10-12 at Richmond, VA's Virginia Commonwealth University, the Showcase will host boys in 15u - 17u competition. Of course it's NCAA sanctioned, ensuring Division I coaches' attendance.

According to Cherry, presently, organizations from "Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Pennslyvania, of course the DMV (District, Maryland, Virginia) and North Carolinia" are all scheduled to participate. These include "Hoops Factory, the Sharpshooters, of couse Assault's teams, Petersburg Elite, NC Gators, NC Elite, Richmond Metro, G.E.S.U.S. Basketball" and others.

The price for each team is $500, and Cherry noted "A few spots are left". Each team is guaranteed three games, with "Tee-shirts to the winners of championships on the 12th".

Contact Cherry at 202.345.5173 or TemperamentSports@gmail.com for details.

This tourney should be looked at as a resource for Mid-Atlantic/East Coast kids.
