Rookie G'Town guard is preparing for future.

March 12, 2012 - Last year at McNamara High School, Taylor Brown was a standout guard, one that earned many accolades, including DMV player of the year and national All American status. Whenever she played, Brown was known for making plays both mundane and exciting. Last season, the guard dropped 20 points and five assists per contest.

This season, her freshman campaign at Georgetown University has produced a different role for the previous four year starter; though playing in 30 games and starting 12, Taylor's averages read 13.6 minutes and 4.2 points per game. That's a change indeed, but don't think it has defeated Brown.

"I'm doing good, I'm enjoying it" said Brown of her frosh season, after learning the Hoyas will travel to Chapel Hill as a fifth seed in the NCAA Women's Championship Tournament. "It's hard work, that's what I've been trained to do".

That's not to say it has been challenging, as honestly Brown indicated she's faced "more work than I expected"; she's simply acknowledging reality.

Brown's coach, Terri Williams-Flournoy, is pleased with her young charge.

"Taylor has developed very well" said the Head Hoya, who then admitted the young lady has "stepped into a tough situation with four senior guards in front of her". Nevertheless, Williams-Flournoy opined "She works extremely hard; nobody can take that away from her".

A self-proclaimed combo guard - Taylor responded "I am who I am" when asked if a move to the point was in her cards - Brown indicated the team's leading scorer, junior guard Sugar 'Shug' Rodgers "helps me out". Brown also revealed the physical nature of BIG EAST play doesn't deter her, as she tries to "be confident, go out there and be ready to play".

All indications are you can expect that from her, going forward. Could we also see some of the dazzling moves she displayed in high school, like the one in which during an all star game, Brown came down on the break and found a streaking teammate by passing between her legs, hitting the young lady in stride for an open lay up?

"Yeah, at some point in my career" answered Brown with a slight mischievous smile on her face and twinkle in her eye. "But right now, I just want to help the team".
