The Ted Cook Memorial mixes two of the late Ted Cook's passions - helping and golfing.

June 1, 2010 – It’s becoming an institution in national hoops circles, being held yearly, causing college coaches from schools across the land to descend upon the Nation’s Capital. No, this is not a travel or high school tournament. In fact, recruiting doesn’t even take place at the Annual Ted Cook Memorial Golf Tournament.

In its third year, the Ted Cook Memorial, according to founder Janet Cook, is “an event that honors the life and legacy of Ted Cook”, a “business person, philanthropist, father, coach”. Ted passed away unexpectantly over three years ago.

Held this year at Cross Creek golf course in Beltsville, MD, on August 16th, Janet Cook, mother of national level, high school point guard Quinn Cook, said the TCM is “open to all” and will boast in addition to the actual golf tournament “Prizes given away. Celebrity golf players, an awards luncheon” plus “Food throughout the day”; essentially “a lot of fun for all”.

Awards will also be presented, including the Ted Cook Humanitarian Award, which was presented to DC Assault’s Curtis Malone two years ago, and in 2009 DeMatha Catholic High School head coach, Mike Jones received it.. Recognition is also yearly given to a youth who per Janet Cook “has advanced against adversity”. Last year, Eric Atkins, soon to be a guard at Notre Dame, was so honored.

All proceeds will benefit DeMatha this year.
