November 14, 2006 – Sophomore guard/forward, Terrance Boyd has long been known in hoop circles as an extremely athletic and talented young man, whose mature build and expansive skill set allowed him to consistently perform well against older competition. He’s continuing that propensity, at Oak Hill Academy this year, after transferring there from Norman, Oklahoma.

“It’s cool, perfect” responded Boyd recently, when asked about his Oak Hill experience. He feels the institution, located in diminutive Mouth of Wilson, VA, provides a “disciplined environment”, enabling him “to concentrate on schoolwork and basketball”.

Academically, Boyd has a course load that includes “Algebra 2, US History, Art, P.E., and Biology”. On the court, the level of competition – both in practices and games – thrills him. “I’m loving it”, he shared. “This is that bump. I’m up on it”.

Playing both shooting guard and small forward, Terrance shard his stat line to be “12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 assists”, which has been produced while battling senior Division I prospect, Alex Legion for playing time.

Easing his transition to Oak Hill has been fellow DC Assault (AAU) standout Nolan Smith. According to Terrance, the Duke University-bound Smith has been helpful, from day one, as Boyd shared, “When I first got down here he showed me where I had to go when I need help”.

Standing 6’5” and weighing around 225 pounds, Terrance believes he “might get to 6’8”, which will further his ability to play his preferred position – small forward – in college. He likes the three more due to his preference for “the bump and grind” that position demands.

Whether Boyd gains three inches or not, college coaches have definitely taken notice. “My top 5 is Pitt, UConn, K-State, Syracuse, and Texas” he said, and a decision is not imminent, as “It might come down to signing day”. His current criteria include a school that is “not that far from home” and boasts “a good climate, nice campus, T.V. games” as well as “a name for itself”.

Even though he misses home, Terrance finished his interview by saying “I’m happy right now”. With his mix of skills and physicality, he will make some college happy, in the future.
