April 14, 2009 - In conjunction with yesterday's17 and under, Take Your Best Shot tournament All Star report, the 16u version is presented here. To say this younger division was chock full of talent is an understatement.

16 and Under First Team

Quinn Cook - 6'0", 160 pound sophomore point guard, DC Assault Gold - Has the total package of skills and understanding. Must become stronger. Big East/ACC squads like Georgetown and Duke are all over him.

Juyanna Green - 6'3", 185 pound sophomore guard, Team Philly - Green looks like a future star; he can score in a number of ways, has size, and plays well with teammates. Villanova, Maryland, St. Joes and Temple have all offered him, with other bigs recruiting.

Tavon Sledge is highly recruited, with good reason.

DaJuan Coleman - 6'8", 255 pound freshman center, Syracuse Select - Possessing good mobility, good feet, and the ability to feel defenders and react accordingly in post situations, Coleman, who has long arms also, has according to his coach "Kentucky, Memphis, Uconn, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Rutgers" and others extremely interested. Must get stronger and more experienced.

Tavon Sledge - 5'9", 170 pound sophomore guard, Rich Soil - Fast, athletic and intense, Sledge wowed on-lookers with his skill and verve: will put it down on your head unless you are careful. Big East schools are all over this Spring Valley, NY resident.

Adjehi Baru - 6'8", 210 pound sophomore forward, DC Assault Blue - Big and athletic, Baru loves to attack the rim, run the floor, and block shots. Needs to develop a go-to, such as a jump hook or drop step. Originally from Ivory Coast, West Africa.

16 and Under Second Team

Keith Coleman - 6'8", 220 pound sophomore forward, Team Philly - All of the 'Illadelph's Big Five schools, plus Nebraska, Marquette and LaSalle are interested in Coleman, a physical, mobile player that must up his skill level.

DJ Amosu - 5'10, 150 pound sophomore point guard, Baltimore Assault - Originally from Texas, this super quick penetrator has a motor that will not stop. Increased stop and pop ability will open his game. Prairie View and Texas A&M have shown interest.

DJ Amosu is a B'More resident originally from Texas that is super quick and competitive.

Malick Kone - 6'5", 205 pound sophomore forward, DC Assault Blue - As a good shooter - mid range or long distance - Kone, who hails from Guinea, West Africa must continue to develop his ball patting skills.

Jamal Lewis - 5'10", 160 pound freshman guard, DC Assault (15's playing 16u) - Capable of defending and driving to the cup, Lewis reminds many of a young Kevin Johnson. Strength and greater confidence in his jumper will mark his ticket.

Chris Martin - 6'0", 180 pound sophomore guard, DC Assault Gold - Can shoot and increasingly handle the ball better. Is receiving high and mid major looks. Must continue ball patting work.

16 and Under Third Team

Eric Savage - 6'2", 175 pound sophomore guard, Baltimore Assault - Great at getting to the cup. Needs more shooting threat in his game.

Lamin Fuller - 5'10, 170 pound sophomore point guard, Team Philly - Solid lead guard, plays in the Philly tradition; hard. Needs to shoot and trust his 'J'.

DC Assault Gold, 16 and under champs.

Terry Brutus - 6'4", 220 pound sophomore, Rich Soil - Playing power forward and center in high school/grassroots, Brutus must migrate to small forward/shooting guard for high major ball. Strong competitor is getting Big East interest.

Demetrius Mitchell - 6'2", 170 pound sophomore swingman, Syracuse Select - Slasher with ups, decent handle, solid passing skills and athleticism. Must get stronger and increase dribbling ability.

Corey Spence - 5'10", 165 pound pound sophomore guard, DC Assault Blue - Could have easily been on the second team, Spence loves to get to the rim. Will learn to pick spots in doing so, which will diminish over penetration, and to drive to pass more often. Could be a true sleeper.
