January 15, 2009 – When Loyola Marymount convinced Terrell Vinson to commit this past fall, it was seen as a coup for the school and its then coach, Bill Bayno. In the span of a few months, things have changed. “That’s the route we are going to take” said Vinson’s dad, James Gilyard of whether the family has in fact reopened his recruitment. Precipitating their decision is Bayno’s departure from the school for health reasons. Gilyard noted Vinson, a 6’7” forward adept around the rim and away from the cup, is already receiving significant interest.
Vinson is a player that through hard work has transformed himself from a power forward to a three-man. “Virginia Tech and South Florida” along with Providence are all possible suitors, plus “definitely Maryland” said Gilyard, with more to surely be evaluated. According to him, Terrell initially “liked the weather (Southern California provides), but now he’s at the point where he wants to go where he’s wanted and playing time will be available”. Expect Terrell to ink a letter of intent in the spring signing period. As such, Gilyard shared “We are going to schedule official visits in March, after the season is over”. Vinson is a star at Baltimore’s Saint Frances Academy, where he not only mans the paint but routinely does work on the perimeter. Accordingly that venerable institution on the Charm City’s East
Side to see even more recruiting attention now that he is available.
