May 21, 2008 – This year’s Virginia Invitational Tournament (VIT) seems to have seamlessly encountered a change in directors: After formerly being run by Levi Franklin and Paulette Proctor, the VIT is now being managed by Nima Omidvar, a coach with Paul VI High School and the Triple Threat travel team organization. Omidvar, a young man of endless energy and drive, has put together a field of 138 teams. Resultantly, to accommodate an event of that magnitude (11 and under through 17 and under age groups will compete May 30th - June 1st), a number of venues have been secured. For complete schedule/location information, access the VIT’s website http://www.teamvibasketball.com/index.html#news1 . The fundamental purpose of the VIT has and will always be to provide exposure for student-athletes. Resultantly, all-star teams for the under 15, 16, and 17 age groupings will be emailed to every college coach in America, according to Omidvar. Additionally, he envisions this year’s VIT having a galvanizing effect for local basketball, Northern Virginia specifically. Consequently, per Nima “When we will be playing the semi finals and championship games for each age group” Sunday at Paul VI High School (Fairfax, VA), “there will be no admission charge”. Wow…great ball with no admission charge for the semi-final and final rounds of a true regional tournament with almost 140 squads, some traveling from as far away as North Carolina, Southern Virginia and Delaware? You bet. Check back with i95Ballerz.com for the aforementioned all-star
teams, as well as other VIT related coverage.
